Not a toy anymore
I put off buying an iPod as I didn't see their usefulness until now. I thought they were all toys until I received my iPod Touch Saturday. Fortunately the iPod Touch arrived early Saturday so I had most the day to play with it. I was at first frustrated and thought about sending it back.
Sunday rolled around and I continued to play with it until I started to figure out all the features. I bought some music from the iTunes Store. I can now listen to A-Ha thanks to my iTunes purchase. So I am catching up on music I could not afford 20 years ago when I had small children at home.
I purchased Macgourmet's Shopping List app at the iTunes Store. I think it was $4.99. I spent two days trying to figure out how to make that work. Found a minor flaw with the iPod. It seems to "forget" its WiFi address so you'd best remember that. Once I figured that out I was able to synch and download shopping lists, recipes, wine notes whatever that was being offered by the Macgourmet app. By the way, you can purchase Macgourmet Deluxe at Amazon. Give it a try. It's an excellent recipe software program developed especially for Mac users. The program is as close to Mastercook, the best cooking software program for PCs, and is sold at Amazon when last checked.
Other cooking related features include lots of apps such as the All Recipes Dinner Spinner (free if I remember right) and the Betty Crocker Mobile Cookbook another freebie. Another freebie was the Big Oven recipe app. Here you can for a recipe from their 160,000 plus database. There are a lot of free or low cost apps available making this a very accessible and usable device.
Last night I able to watch some downloaded videos from the iTunes store. A really nice feature as I could watch videos without disturbing my husband who was trying to sleep. I also discovered that I could listen to the downloaded music through my iMac and have done so. The iMac is located in my kitchen so now I can listen to good music while I cook.
Other nifty features found on the iTouch include the web browser Safari, a mail app which truly works, a calendar, a contacts list and a very nice calculator. You can clearly see the numbers on the calculator which is a bonus for us older folks with aging eyes. You can also read Kindle Books on the iPod Touch. The pages are shown with a white background with black text.
You can also shop using the Amazon app. I haven't bought anything through this app yet, but I will give it a try. I can already read my Amazon Wishlist at first glance.
Am I pleased with my new "toy"? You bet. I wouldn't call this a toy anymore. It is up there with a PDA with added audio and video features.
I highly recommend purchasing this device. It's worth every penny.
